Cursed Isles

Privacy Policy

Effective 26 October 2026

The short version

1. Who we are

Cursed Isles is made by SparkCo, based in Australia. In this policy, "we" and "us" means SparkCo, and "the game" means Cursed Isles on Android.

For anything about your privacy, email info@cursedisles.net.

2. What stays on your device

The game saves the following on your phone so you can carry on where you left off. None of it is sent to us.

"Reset progress" in Settings erases your progress. Uninstalling the game deletes everything it stored on your device.

3. Anonymous gameplay data (only if you agree)

The first time you open the game, it asks what year you were born. If you're 16 or under, that's the end of it: you're never asked about data and the game never sends any (see Children). If you're older, it asks whether you'd like to share anonymous gameplay data. Nothing is sent until you answer, and nothing at all if you choose No thanks. You can change your answer any time with the Share gameplay data switch in Settings. Turning it off stops collection straight away.

If you choose Share data, the game uses Unity Analytics, a service from Unity Technologies, to send:

What happens in the game

What Unity adds automatically

What we never collect

Your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location, your year of birth, anything you type, or your Google account.

4. Why we use it

We use gameplay data only to understand how the game is played, so we can fix what's too hard, too easy or confusing: where runs end, which skills get picked, and whether rewards feel fair. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't build profiles of players.

If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal basis for this is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time in Settings. Withdrawing doesn't affect data sent before you switched it off.

5. Who else sees it

Unity Technologies receives and stores the gameplay data on our behalf, as our analytics provider. Under European privacy law Unity is our processor and we are the controller; under California law Unity is our service provider. Unity may process the data in countries other than yours, including the United States, under Unity's Data Processing Addendum. Unity explains how it handles players' data in its Game Player and App User Privacy Policy.

We don't sell gameplay data or share it with anyone else, including advertisers. Ads and purchases involve other companies; section 10 explains how.

6. How long it's kept

Unity keeps the gameplay data for 13 months and then deletes it automatically. Overall figures in the dashboard, like how many people played each day, are kept for as long as the game's analytics project exists. We look at the data in Unity's dashboard and don't keep copies that identify individual players.

7. Security

Gameplay data is sent to Unity over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. It doesn't include your name or contact details.

8. Your choices and rights

To ask about any of this, email info@cursedisles.net.

9. Children

Cursed Isles is made for a general audience that includes children.

When the game first opens, it asks the player's year of birth. It keeps only whether the player is 16 or under (judged by birth year alone, so we err on the young side), and never the year itself.

Players 16 and under:

Their progress is saved on their device like everyone else's. We picked 16 because it's the highest age of digital consent anywhere in the EU, so the same rule protects children everywhere.

If you're a parent or guardian and think your child shared gameplay data, use Delete my data in Settings, or contact us at info@cursedisles.net.

10. Purchases and ads

Purchases

You can buy gems with real money. Google Play handles the payment. We never see your name, card or payment details. The game receives a confirmation from Google Play (what was bought, when, and an order number), checks it with Unity's in-app purchase service so the gems can't be faked, and adds them to your game. If you've chosen to share gameplay data, the purchase is also recorded with it. Google's privacy policy covers the payment itself: policies.google.com/privacy.

Ads

The game shows an ad only when you choose to watch one, for example to revive or to get more energy. It never shows ads you didn't ask for.

Ads are served by Unity LevelPlay, a service from Unity Technologies, which picks each ad from the ad networks it works with, such as Google AdMob. To show an ad, check it was watched, and prevent fraud, they receive:

Personalised ads. Players over 16 in the EEA, the UK and other places where the law requires it are asked, using Google's consent form, whether ads can be personalised. Everywhere else, you can turn ad personalisation off in your phone's settings. Players 16 and under only ever see ads that aren't personalised (see Children).

How Unity and Google use ad data is explained in Unity's Game Player and App User Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from apps that use its services. In the EEA and UK, our legal basis for personalised ads is your consent. For other ads, it's our legitimate interest in keeping the game free to play.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date at the top.
